Nightlife

Belgium is very famous for Beers. There are over 400 beers. Therefore you can drink a beer everyday and never drink the same twice in a year. Brussels has hundreds of excellent bars and café's. The bars and café's listed on this page are either in the Grand Place area or in the Louise area.

Bars

A la Mort Subite:Very famous café and drink. This old bar is the home of the strong beer La Mort Subite. It's the kind of bar for older people but the decoration inside and the atmosphere is like an old traditional Belgian bar. Address: Rue Montagne aux Herbes Potageres 7 in the Grand Place area. Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere
L'ecuyer: A.K.A the Boot. It's the closest you will get from a typical contemporary Belgian bar. A bit tacky inside even though they recently refurbished and re-decorated the place. There are a few locals who are sitting at the bar it's best to leave them alone because they hate young people. Apart from that very reasonable prices. Dozens of special deals with drinks. Music is quite bad but not loud so it's a good place to have a chat. Plenty of seats, great place for a group of 5 to 10 people The house speciality: The Boot, A litre (2.2pints) of beer in a glass in the shape of a real size boot. The bar staff will warn you 5 times not to break it! It's very fragile and if you do break it it will cost you +/- 800BF.
Address: Rue de l'ecuyer, 3. (200m from the one above. Next to Virgin Megastore).
Metro: De Brouckere
A l'Imaige Nostre Dame: Very old bar hidden in the end of a small alleyway. This bar has old wooden tables and serves a wide variety of Belgian beers. The majority of people here are old. But this is a good way to have a drink and to feel like you are living in Brussels a couple of hundred years ago. The first picture below is a picture of the friendly bartender that works here and the second picture shows you the inside of this old bar.
Address: Rue Marché au Herbes, 8 (2 min walk from the Grand Place). Metro: De Brouckere
Dali's Bar: This bar is inspired from the Spanish modern artist Salvador Dali. The whole place is decorated like his art (a bit strange), but everything fits well together. Lighting is very dark, but pleasant. Special cocktails! On weekends a DJ mixes live music (house, techno and garage), therefore it can be a bit loud and annoying especially if you want to talk to someone. Also has a small dance floor in the basement but it is only opened once in a while basically when the bar staff and the DJ feels like it. When the basement is closed people sometimes start dancing in the bar around 11:30pm. Great atmosphere, lot's of young people and the place to go to before going out to a club.
Address: In a small street not far from the Grand Place.

Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere
Zebra Bar: Although the name is English, this is a great and trendy Belgian bar. It is located in the Bourse area and is surrounded by dozens of similar bars. The place can get quite loud especially on weekends. Very popular with young people.
Address: Place st Géry, 33 next to Bourse. Metro and Tram Bourse
Metro: De Brouckere
Le Cercueil - The Coffin: Depending on your taste you might enjoy this bar. It is very dark, the tables are made of coffins, the lamp shades are coffins the whole place is a bit scaryt. They have a big list of cocktails with very weird names. Beer is served is a 'scull' (pottery shaped mug of a scull). Nice place to go to for a chat, because the music is not loud, place is quiet, small and cosy. The coffin is also called the 'tourist trap' because it is mentioned in every guidebook about brussels and is extremely expensive. The kind of place to got to if you have money and you think the place is cool. It is hard to find because it is in one of the side streets leading off the grand place and it is down a corridor next to a window with a funeral flowers. Sounds like a strange place but it's quite popular amongst tourists.
Address:Rue des Harengs, 10. (just off the grand place)
Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere
Pablo Discobar: This is a small but very popular and trendy bar amongst young people in Brussels. It has a really nice decoration and a live DJ on the weekends and on some nights during the week. The music is great and puts everyone in a good mood. This place is really cosy and is a great place to start the evening in Brussels.
Address:rue du Marche au Charbon, 60 (5 min from Grand Place and Bourse)
Metro: De Brouckere
Che Habana: This is a new bar with a theme based around latino music. Small but popular, has a live band on the weekends and is just off the Grand Place. Average prices of drinks, music is not too loud. The place to go to 'warm up' if the weather is bad.
Address: rue du??? (in one of the side streets of the Grand Place) Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere
Lop Lop: Very famous in Brussels. Also very international, not just English speaking. On two levels always busy during the week and packed on the weekends. Huge selection of drinks. There is actually a menu just for drinks! Quite good food. Sometimes on the weekend bands or solo musicians perform on the lower floor. Lot's of people from 18-25. Average Prices. Open until the next morning. Good mix of international people and Belgians.
Address: Rue de l'Ecuyer (5 min from Grand Place and next to Virgin Megastore and Bourse)
Metro: Centrale or De Brouckere

Night Clubs

The Fuse
Probably the best club in Brussels! Similar to the Ministry of Sound in London. Three rooms: 1 main dance floor, 1 chill out room and a smaller dance floor on the second floor. Excellent atmosphere, lots of young people. Music is generally techno, house and similar styles. They have famous international DJ's mixing every weekend. The entry is sometimes free before 11 pm (however this does not apply all the time). Entry prices vary depending on what type of evening it is and who is mixing. However it is usually around 300BF-400BF

Tour & Taxi
The Tour & Taxi is fairly new and is quite a popular place among people in their mid 20's and early 30's. The inside of the club is big and spacious. Music played is usually house. Good atmosphere. Entrance starts around 10pm and is sometimes free before 12pm. If you have to pay to get in, the price is around 300BF.
Address:Rue Picard, 5, Metro Ribaucourt
Le Mirano
This club has been in Brussels for a while and is still very popular amongst young people. The club itself is quite big and the music varies between house and techno. The dress code is trendy but the bouncers are usually not too strict. This club is located about 10 minutes (drive) from the Grand Place area (downtown). Entrance starts around 12 pm and the night finishes into the earrly hours of the next morning. Entry fee varies between 300BF and 500BF depending on the type of event.
Address:Chaussée de Louvain, 38. Metro Madou
Who's Who's Land
The Who's Who's Land is a great club with several rooms only 5 minutes away from the Grand Place. The nightclub often has famous DJ's on the weekends and generally plays house music.
Address: Rue du Poinçon, 17 (5 min walk from the Grand Place)
Metro:Centrale or De Brouckere
'espace de Nuit
This club is located just around the Grand Place in 'Pitta Street' (go to the things to see section for more info). This club is also known as the 'tourist trap' because it is not far from hotels and hostels and the majority of people are Scandinavian or American tourists. The music is chart music and can get a bit boring after a few hours. Entrance and prices of drinks are quite expensive. However they do have special deals such as buy one and get one free. This club is not bad if you just want to have a good laugh with a bunch of friends and you are not too bothered by the music they play.
Address:'Pitta street' just around the corner from the Grand Place.
Metro:Centrale or De Brouckere
The Made in Brussels Club
This new nightclub is set in several underground rooms that used to be old cellars.
Address:Place de la Chapelle, 6 (5 min walk from the Grand Place)
Metro:Centrale or De Brouckere
Le Sud
Le Sud starts off as a bar and later on, the dancefloor opens up in the back room. Le Sud is a small club with a mediterranean/north african decoration. The place itself seems a bit run down and dirty but that's all part of Le Sud. The music they play varies and is usually experimental. In Le Sud, it is quite easy to meet people and the bar/club is very close to the Grand Place and other bars and night clubs.
Address:Rue de l'ecuyer (5 min from Grand Place, next to Lop Lop bar, see bar section).
Metro:Centrale or De Brouckere
The Sparrow
The Sparrow is two year's old and has quickly become a popular club in Brussels. The Sparrow is a special place because the atmosphere is quite different from many clubs in Brussels because of the type of music they play. The music played varies between Funk, Soul, Salsa, etc. The place is quite big and is quite a good place to go if you want to get away from techno, house and commercial music.
Address:Rue Duquesnoy, 18 (5 min from Centrale Station or Debrouckere)
Metro:Centrale or De Brouckere
Website:http://www.sparrowclub.com/http://www.sparrowclub.com/
Jeux d'Hiver
This club is located in a big park not too far from the city centre. The dancefloor is quite small but there are many other rooms where you can talk to people and have a drink. This club is attended by a lot of wealthy people thus the prices are quite expensive. People there are usually in their late 20's and mid 30's.
Address: Bois de la Cambre (next to Mexican Grill Restaurant, 10 minutes drive from Louise area).
